Madison- Spend the day taking in all that this wonderful city has to offer. The capitol building inside and outside, walk state street and shop to your hearts content or enjoy many of the fine restaurants and micro brews this city has to offer. UW Madison Geology Museum was really interesting! Of course there is the Childrens Museum, Veterans Museum , Wisconsin Historical Museum, Madison of Contemporary Art or the Chazen Museum of Art. Head to the mustard museum in Middleton WI, a short drive from downtown Madison and a great place to sample some of the thousands of variety of mustard they have for sale!
Wisconsin Dells- an easy 1 hour trip from the campground! (north and east of the campground)
North Freedom Train and Museum- This is a wonderful trip for any age, the museum is great and has a train ride too. You can even ride in the Engine or Caboose! (you need reservations for the engine and caboose) (north and east of the campground)
Circus Museum- Baraboo If you take in the North Freedom Train and Museum then just a short drive into Baraboo and the Circus Museum. (north and east)
The Lead Mine and Museum-Platteville About an hour south west of the campground, this is great for young and old, great museum to see first and then down into the lead mine that is located under several blocks of town. (south and west of the campground)
Mineral Point WI- Located about 20 miles north of Platteville or about 40 minutes from the campground, this beautiful town has a rich history and a small cornish settlement called shake Rag Alley. Shops, pottery, train depot museum, great food including a cornish pasty at the RED ROOSTER Cafe and other eateries in town. (south and west of the campground)
Viroqua- A couple of antique stores, the Lucy Stone Marker should be checked out! On July 4th 1856 she made one of the first womens rights and anti-slavery speeches! There are many very old head stones in that cemetery as well if you like to explore old cemeteries! (west of the campground)
Viola- Another small town with charm. They also have an annual horse and colt show that includes a horse pull! If you've never experienced a horse pull you have to check it out. (west of the campground)
LaCrosse WI- If you are looking to spend the day sightseeing, this would be one of my first choices! This 80 mile trek westbound along highway 14 is pretty stunning, in addition there are some wonderful small towns along the way that have antique, salvage (make sure you stop at Kickapoo trading post in reedstown) and other unique shops. LaCrosse is a great place for exploring and shopping and also has some great dining options. Just another hour up the road on the MN side you want to make sure that you visit the National Eagle Center in Wabasha MN. Very close access to their eagles, they even have a golden eagle. All of the eagles are in an open concept area, they have access to a perch, water to drink or play in and the setting is right along the river, just beautiful! They also have several talks per day that include an up close and personal view of these spectacular birds of prey. One of my personal favorite places to visit! (west) {gallery}Lacross{/gallery}
If you enjoy junking and salvage here is the place for you! You NEVER know what you'll find there!
